Your Attachment Style is Your Personal Blueprint for Relationships

Everyone has an attachment style. It forms between birth and age 3, based on how consistently safe, seen, and cared for we felt by our caregivers. If our needs were met consistently, we learned that connection is safe. If not, we developed protective emotional patterns to help us survive.
Your attachment style is your personal blueprint for love, connection, and closeness. It’s like an internal rulebook you didn’t know you were given, but it shapes how you show up in life and relationships. Attachment Theory is well established in Psychology, and is supported by voluminous research that started in the 1970s under John Bowlby and Mary Aimsworth.
There’s one way to be securely attached, and three ways to be insecurely attached. Research shows that less than half of adults today have Secure Attachment. The insecure styles are known as Anxious Preoccupied (AP), Dismissive Avoidant (DA), and Fearful Avoidant (FA), also called Disorganized.
Your attachment style determines:
How you handle conflict
Who you’re attracted to
Your emotional patterns in relationships
How long your relationships last
Your ability to trust -- or not
We tend to feel attracted to people with a different attachment style than our own, which creates confusion because each person operates according to a very different set of subconscious rules. As relationships deepen, those differences create friction and activate our attachment patterns. That's when we start overthinking, pulling away, chasing, shutting down, or people-pleasing as our subconscious tries to create safety in connection in the only ways it knows how.
If you've ever tried to change the way you show up in relationships and still found yourself repeating the same patterns, you're not alone. These behaviors live deep in the subconscious mind, where good intentions, willpower, and insight alone cannot reach them. You can't consciously override a subconscious program. To create lasting change, you have to work at the level where the pattern exists: the subconscious mind.
For many years, experts believed attachment styles remained fixed throughout life. Fortunately, we now know that isn't true. It was assumed that the only way for an insecurely attached person to become more secure was to build a relationship with someone who already had a secure attachment style. In reality, that rarely creates lasting change. Insecurely attached people often struggle to remain in relationships with secure partners because their subconscious patterns continue to shape how they perceive closeness, conflict, and emotional safety.
People absolutely can heal through relationships when both partners learn to understand, accept, and accommodate one another. But that process can take a lifetime, and it doesn't guarantee that your attachment patterns won't continue affecting your career, friendships, family relationships, or relationship with yourself. Ultimately, only you can heal your attachment style. With the right tools and guidance, that's exactly what we'll do together. You can rewire your relationship blueprint in a matter of months instead of spending years repeating the same painful cycles.
Healing is possible because of neuroplasticity, your brain's lifelong ability to form new neural pathways and weaken old ones through repeated experience. You can learn tools to re-condition your subconscious for healthier emotional responses, to meet your needs in new ways, and to reinforce new subconscious beliefs that strengthen the neural circuits supporting secure attachment while allowing the old ones to fade. Lasting change doesn't happen because you understand your patterns intellectually. It happens because you repeatedly teach your subconscious a new way of relating until it becomes your new default.
